Conference Themes
International Cooperation - Peace Parks as Catalysts for Innovative Transboundary Management
The idea is that the International Peace Park designation legitimized a spirit of cooperation that has been used to seek ongoing designations and other forms of cooperation that may not have been anticipated at the time. The conference aims to document that ripple effect and consider its potential and realization around the world. We have identified several sectors of cooperation: managerial, scientific, public/private, intergovernmental and educational. Our aim is to share success stories, embrace challenges, and advance the theory and practice of transboundary management, especially in the context of international peace parks. The conference program will address the following themes:

- Peace parks as vehicles for international cooperation
- Education in transboundary protected areas & peace parks
- The influence and role of international peace parks and other transboundary reserves on regional economies

- Governance and management of international peace parks and transboundary protected areas
- Legal mechanisms and arrangements for transboundary conservation
- Collaborative initiatives and mechanisms for transboundary management
- Wildlife management and transboundary protected areas
- Effective engagement of local communities and other stakeholders in transboundary protected areas
- The role of indigenous peoples in transboundary protected areas and international peace parks
- Case studies and regional overviews of International Peace Parks & transboundary protected areas
